ACCOMPANYING PERSONS PROGRAMME Dear All,We had a very busy 2007 getting our programme together for the Cape Town meeting in September 2008. With the help of Colleen Crosier and Alison Steyn I had a lot of fun planning an interesting week for the “non-academics”. On Monday we shall visit the Groote Schuur estate for tea and a guided tour of its stunning collection of art and Africana. A lovely lunch at the Wild Fig Restaurant will complete the outing. We shall be back in time for the FP Fouché lecture followed by the opening ceremony. Please don’t miss our special act for the evening – the a cappella group “Adams Appel” is exceptional. Tuesday takes us on a West Coast outing to see the spring carpet of the Cape. We shall have a walk through the flowers, a visit to Evita se Perron in Darling, lunch at Geelbek Farm in the West Coast Park, a drive through the park and hopefully see some wild life as well. Driving back we have the most beautiful view in the world – Table Mountain on the horizon. Wednesday is sport and the combined outing to Riebeeck Kasteel with its wonderful combination of wine and olives - much better that playing golf. We have not been to Stellenbosch for quite a few years and on Thursday we shall make this an outing to remember. We start the day with champagne tasting at JC le Roux to put us in the mellow mood necessary for a visit to the Rupert Museum with its wonderful collection of South African art, as well as the beautiful tapestries from Belgium, followed by lunch at the Lanzarac Hotel situated between the mountains and vineyards in Jonkershoek. We shall be back in plenty of time to titivate for the evening’s banquet. At our last meeting in Johannesburg we had the privilege of seeing some of our members’ artwork on display. We would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in taking part in an exhibition during this meeting to contact Tracey or Sam at ICE Solution at +27 11 911 1921. I hope to see you all in Cape Town and that you will join us for an unforgettable week. Yours Sincerely TRIX VLOK LADIES COMMITTEE The Organizers will be offering tours and excursions
of interest for the accompanying persons which will take place during the
Congress.
![]() TUESDAY 2 SEPTEMBER 2008 Full day tour to the West Coast National park including lunch at the Geelbek Restaurant and viewing of the flowers. West Coast National Park: “The largest concentration of mammals is in the Postberg Reserve, but this is only open to public during flower season. However mammals are found throughout the rest of the reserve. Eland, red hartebeest, Cape grysbok, caracal and rock hyrax are some of the species to look out for. Visitors should also keep an eye on the Atlantic Ocean for passing whales and dolphins. The restaurant is situated on the lagoon in the Geelbek main house. This Cape Dutch building is a National Monument and was renovated three times since it was first built in 1744. Geelbek Restaurant has built up a reputation for fine dining in a beautiful setting. Enjoy birds, sunshine and the views of flamingoes while enjoying our lovely food. We serve traditional food with a colonial flair. We use the freshest ingredients and local ingredients are a priority.
"Located in a vineyard on the banks of the Eersterivier (First River) Huberte chose the site for the new home of the family's vast art collection, a short distance from Millennia Park where the offices of the Rupert Family Foundations, WWF SA (World Wildlife Foundation South Africa) and the Peace Parks Foundation are situated. This was also where the late Dr Anton Rupert had his office, until his recent death on 18 January 2006."
One of the region's most distinguished examples of Cape Dutch architecture endures on a 300-year old country estate, preserving the elegant atmosphere of a gracious age. The Lanzerac Manor & Winery is located on a private working wine estate in the world-famous Jonkers-hoek Valley surrounded by the dramatic Helderberg mountains.. FRIDAY 5 SEPTEMBER 2008 No ladies programme.
