Rules of this Abstract
Abstracts are required for Oral Papers & Posters.
Abstracts should be arranged as follows:
Purpose of study
Description of methods
Summary of results - It is unacceptable to state
“results will be discussed”
Conclusion
Please avoid referring to authors’ names, institutions
or cities in the abstract as these abstracts
are judged in a “blind” method
Abstracts must be typed in the space provided
on the website and must be limited to 300
words. Do not reduce the type size to less than
12 cpi.
v All abstracts must be submitted in English
Please underline the presenting author
Abstracts will be published as received. Typing
or other errors made by the authors will not be
corrected
No illustrations may be included in the abstract
Abbreviations should be used only in common
terms. For uncommon terms, the abbreviation
should be given in brackets after the first full use
of the word
Presenters will be notified of acceptance/
rejection of the abstract/s via email after
selection process (end May)
Important Note: Presenters of papers must be registered
for the Congress. Failure to do so will result in
their paper being removed from the programme.
Important note: Papers not accepted for oral presentation
may be submitted as a poster. Presenters
will be granted 10 minutes only to present oral papers.
Rules of Posters
Posters will be displayed for the full duration of
the Congress and authors must be available to
discuss their posters.
Poster measurements are 60cm (width) x 90cm
(height).
A supply of double sided tape/ Velcro will be
available in the poster area to mount posters.
Poster material must be prepared in advance
and should be large enough to be viewed
from a distance of one metre.
Each poster must have a label at the top that
indicates the title of the paper and the name(s)
of the author(s).
The size of the characters for the title should be
at least 2.5cm high.
Drawings and charts should be clear and simple.
GT Du Toit Registrar Prize
Registrars or clinical assistants who wish to apply for
this prize must please complete a GT Du Toit Registrar
Prize form and have it duly signed by the Department
Head. Only members of the SAOA can
apply. These forms are available on the website or
contact the SAOA office on 051 4303280 or info@
saoa.org.za
Instructions for Non-Members of the
SAOA
Please forward with your abstract a supporting
letter from a Full Member of the SAOA who
will sponsor you.
Please state your Orthopaedic Affiliation.
Please disclose the source of any financial support
for your participation in the Congress.
