PROF. VINCE PELLEGRINI

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity. Since 2001, Pellegrini has held the position of James L Kernan Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Maryland School Of Medicine. Dr Pellegrini’s clinical interests and expertise include venous thromboembolic disease, the control of heterotopic ossification, osteonecrosis and causative factors of osteorarthritis.

Dr Pellegrini presently serves as President of the American Orthopaedic Association, Secretary/ Treasurer of the Hip Society, immediate Past President of the Maryland Orthopaedic Association and President-Elect of the medical staff of the University of Maryland Medical Centre. He has received numerous professional awards. Pellegrini served as Deputy Editor of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery from 2005 to 2010 and is presently an examiner for the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, a member of the ACGME Residency Review Committee in Orthopaedic Surgery, and serves on the administrative board of the Council of Academic Societies of the AAMC. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles and has lectured at professional meetings nationally and internationally.

Special interest: Hip replacements and revisions. He is the proud father of three daughters and enjoys golf as psychotherapy.

DR JERZY (GEORGE) SIKORSKI

Primary, secondary and tertiary education in London. Orthopaedic training and Doctorate in Bristol, UK.

Senior Lecturer in Perth, Western Australia. Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery in Universities of Queensland and Western Australia. Scientific Secretary and later President of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.

Research interests: deep vein thrombosis, proximal femoral fractures, low back pain and computer assistance for total knee replacement.

Married to Elizabeth, with two children his interests include history, classical music, bird watching and golf.
